How to start a business
The best place to start is on the governments website
you will be able to register your business online there and get tax information. If you have a local office for Entrepreneurship called The Small Business
Enterprise Centre (probably in your regional municipal center) they can help you get the registration done in their office and do your name search as well.

How do you get a government grant to start a business
Contact the Canada-Ontario Business Service Centre at and inquire 1-800-567-2345 .
Their website never even mentions about availability of grants for businesses, but they do mention that the Canadian Small Business Financing
Program , under the Canada Small Business Financing Act , can help businesses obtain term loans of up to $250,000 to help finance fixed assets
In the US, grants are hardly given for starting a business
, though there's widespread myth perpetuated by scammers who claim that it is easy to get grants for a for profit venture. So please be careful when visiting websites that claim they can get grants for you
I live in Ontario Canada
, I'm considering starting my own business
. I just don't know how to get started.
If you want to start a business, visit the Ontario Business Connect http://www.cbs.gov.on.ca/obc/english/4TJ…

or get your business license through them

If I am on a business
visa to USA, can I visit canada
Based on your previous questions I assume that you hold an Indian passport. In this case you will need to apply for a Canadian visa and will have to provide the similar documentation as you have provided to get your B1 visa. You can apply for a Canadian visa either from your home country before departing to the United States (Chandigarh – New Delhi) or from the Canadian Immigration Centers in the United States (Buffalo – Detroit – Los Angeles – New York – Seattle – Washington, D.C.)

Craig Said:What percentage of Canada's business is U.S. owned?We Answered:about 16% based on a 1996 article
12,725 corporations in Canada owned by foreigners
Americans account for more than half of the foreign ownership. There are more than 6,800 U.S.-owned companies in Canada. Most are medium-to-large subsidiaries of U.S. parents.
Foreign-owned companies accounted for 31.5 per cent of the nearly $1.3-trillion in corporate revenue generated in Canada in 1996 (excluding the financial sector). That share has been slowly rising from a low of 26.9 per cent in 1988, just before the signing of the bilateral Canada-U.S. free- trade-agreement.

Virgil Said:GST for incorporation and sole proprietorship? We Answered:This depends on whether or not you are registered for the GST. If you have annual sales of greater than $30,000 then you are required to register for GST, charge GST on your sales, and remit this to the government. But if you are not yet registered for GST then you should not be charging it until such time as you obtain a GST registration number.
Even if your annual sales are less than $30,000 you may wish to register in any case, as you will then be able to...

Get your insurer to fax you a temporary slip, proof of insurance is imperative, and a photocopy of registration will suffice. YOU MUST HAVE BOTH. Not so much just to cross the border, but to drive in Canada.
Do not tell the border guard the nature of your trip other then "meeting with clients." Their authority cannot be challenged, and nobody likes debt collectors, period.Chester Said:Does anybody know where...

Gladys Said:Can a 2 month old travel from Canada to the US by air without a passport? We Answered:I'm sorry to say that due to new travel regulations all people (even 1 day old babies) need a passport to travel. The birth certificate alone will not help you. If you are mexicans go straight away to the mexican consultate and ask for an expedited passport for your child. This could be the quickest way as you are both mexicans although the child was born in Canada. He will also need the Canadian passport but maybe getting the mexican one first is...

Harold Said:Any ideas out there on how I can save on personal income tax here in Vancouver, Canada? Anything will help.?We Answered:RRSP's are pretty much the only way an average person can get more money back at the end of the year, but do realize that when you go to withdraw that money at retirement (or earlier which i do not reccomend) you will be taxed at that withdrawl. Wesley Said:Do immigrants pay a higher income tax rate than nationals in Canada? We Answered:The income tax rates are the same. There is a difference, though between an immigrants return and one for a person who has lived in Canada the entire year.
The Non-refundable Tax credits (Schedule 1 of income tax return) are prorated for immigrants and emigrants, based on the number of days that the person has resided in Canada. Someone who arrived halfway through 2007 would be taxed once their income reached 4800 dollars, rather than the 9600 dollar basic exemption that normally is allowed.Courtney Said:Personal investment income tax...
Bertha Said:Can someone give me a number or a website other then revenue canada to find my ontario income tax refund info?We Answered:No organization outside of CRA has access to the information you are looking for, since Ontario uses CRA to administer their personal income tax program. This is to protect your privacy.
1-800-959-9281 is CRA's number. Since you don't have the information on line 150 for this year, you will likely just have to answer other questions that will help the agent identify you. Line 150 for last year might help. I can't tell you exactly what questions...
Peter Said:US citizen receiving stock inheritance living in Canada? We Answered:As long as those stocks and bonds are not in a tax deferred account you get "stepped up value" which means the tax basis changes to the price on the day of death and there is no taxes, no gains. There may tax on any interest since death but you have to pay that anyway.
So cashing them out is not a problem, not taxable, unless the total estate was many times larger and there would be estate taxes. But the executor should take care of that anyway.

Andrea Said:Can someone help me understand Canada Savings Bonds? We Answered:The main government site below does a fair job of explaining them. The bonds actually vary in how long you should save them for. (That "term" is the time between the date the gov't issues them and their maturity date -- when the gov't pays you back the principal and interest.)
Of course, you can always buy and sell them anytime during their term, but there's a small cost to doing that.
BTW, you might want to consider other investments. Here's what the CBC says: <>http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/canada…Leslie Said:Can the Canada Savings Bonds be...
Eva Said:When does a small business have to file tax in Canada? We Answered:Unless you are incorporated (ie, a limited company), you file your business income with your personal tax return. It looks like you are operating a partnership, so you and your friends split the income and expenses pro-rata. If a personal return has business income on it, the filing deadline is June 15th, but any taxes owing must be paid by April 30th.
There is no minimum. If you have business income or expenses, you need to include them on your tax return. There is no minimum age. You can...
